Date of Event : Thu Jan 31, 2019 10:44AM

Congratulations to club legend Bud Walder who is now deservingly a life member of the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association.

Bud is also a life member of Balwyn and we are extremely proud to see the VSDCA recognise his outstanding contribution over the years.

Commencing his VSDCA career after representing Fitzroy-Doncaster with distinction, Bud was an outstanding cricketer for Balwyn and is a member of the VSDCA "200 Game Club" playing 219 1st XI matches between seasons 1969-70 to 1991-1992. During that time, he took an impressive 466 wickets at an average of 15.65 with his wily leg-breaks and well disguised "wrong un".

Bud was also a more than handy left hand batsman and represented the VSDCA with distinction on 10 separate occasions. Other remarkable achievements include winning five Club Championships (Jack Seelenmeyer Trophy) and a total of 11 bowling averages consisting of five in the 1st XI; two in the 3rd XI; and four in the 4th XI.

Following the end of his 1st XI career, Bud made a significant contribution to Balwyn in the lower grades, was Balwyn’s VSDCA delegate for nine consecutive years and Balwyn coach for the 1980-81 season.

Throughout his 342 games for the club he has imparted considerable knowledge of the game and a competitive spirit on generations of Balwyn cricketers.

Now, each year Balwyn players in each XI vote on a 3-2-1 basis for the best player in each game and the winner of the vote count is awarded the Bud Walder Medal.
