Balwyn Cricket Club Seeks Captain/Coach

Balwyn Cricket Club (BCC) is seeking a Captain/Coach for Season 2017/2018.


The BCC’s mission is to be the most competitive and professional cricket club in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association (VSDCA) and a leader for clubs within the eastern suburbs of Melbourne; to provide the best facilities for junior and senior cricketers; and to engage with the wider community to provide sporting and social opportunities for all ages, races and sexes.


In 2016/2017, BCC finished fourth in the VSDCA Club Championship, with three sides playing finals and the 1st XI winning the East/West Group Premiership. The Club enjoys some of the best facilities in the competition at its home ground Gordon Barnard Reserve, maintains a healthy financial position and is supported by a strong Committee of Management.


This is an excellent opportunity to coach a young, talented playing group and to foster on-field success for the coming years.


Applications from well credentialed candidates for all coaching roles will be considered (i.e. playing or non-playing, captain coach or assistant coach). Captaincy or coaching experience at VSDCA / Premier Cricket, as well as the ability to play in our 1st XI, would be preferred.

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to analyse, study, plan and review match day strategies and how players fit into these
  • Knowledge of cricket skills - technical and tactical
  • Excellent on-field performance
  • Ability to deal with a diverse range of players, officials and supporters
  • Help to continue to develop and maintain strong and inclusive team/club culture


Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Devise and implement pre-season training program
  • Organise regular training sessions during season – 2 x sessions per week minimum (support of Captains, Net Captain and Assistant Coach (TBC)
  • Form part of the Selection Committee
  • Take interest and help guide the Junior Development Program
  • One on one training sessions as required
  • Provide clear instruction and feedback to the individual players and their captains
  • Encourage and develop improvement in players' skills – all XI’s
  • Captain 1st XI
  • Develop leadership skill within younger players
  • Help guide J.G. Craig Under 15 Coach in direction of the Club
